LADY HORNETS FALL TO UNDEFEATED BINGHAMTON 75-66

Dover, Del (Nov. 21) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets lost to the Binghamton Bearcats 75-66 in a hotly contested matchup, on Thursday night at Memorial Hall Gym. The contest between the two schools had eight ties and five lead changes. The Lady Hornets record now stands at 3-2.

Both offenses were clicking early, scoring on their first three possessions.

DSU guard Shay Collins stole the ball from Binghamton guard Kai Moon for a layup to start a 6-2 run for the Lady Hornets, and Lyric Turner capped off the run knocking down a jumper with 4:55 left in the first quarter to take a 12-8 lead.

Miajah Bullock snapped a 4-0 Binghamton run, with a euro step between two defenders for a layup, to retake a 14-12 lead.

Collins buried a three pointer from the left wing to put the Hornets on top again at, 17-15 with 2:37 left in the quarter. The Winter Haven, Florida native scored nine points in the quarter, she finished the game with 13 points, two steals and one assist.

Melissa Sam scored in the post despite the foul to take a 19-18 lead into the second quarter.

Binghamton went on a 15-5 run to open the second. Lyric Turner stopped the run with a much needed three-pointer to shrink the Bearcats lead to 33-27 with 3:46 left.

Late in the second quarter DSU guard Lanayjha Ashe forced a turnover and found Lyric Turner in transition for a jumper along the left wing, cutting the deficit to nine. After the possession Binghamton head coach Bethann Shapiro was called for a technical foul. Lyric Turner made both ensuing free throws to shrink the Bearcats lead to 40-33.

Despite the wild end to the half, The Lady Hornets trailed 42-33, as the Wildcats made two free throws with just 3.3 seconds remaining on the play clock.

The Lady Hornets were trailing by double digits, when Lanayjha Ashe drove from the left wing and dished a pass to DeMaurea Moore for a layup to get the deficit back to single digits with 7:57 left in the third quarter.

After forcing a ten second backcourt violation, Miajah Bullock, found Moore in the post for another layup to cut the deficit to seven at 46-39 with 7:36 remaining. The Ju-co transfer from Wallace State Community College, finished the game with seven points, five rebounds and sported the best plus/minus rating for the team, with a +4.

A few possessions later Lyric Turner caused a turnover and finished the possession with a step back jumper with 4:00 minutes left to shrink the Bearcat lead to just five points. Turner had a game high 21 points in just 20 minutes of action.

That is as close as the Lady Hornets would get.

The Bearcats used a 10-4 run to end the third period, with a 58-47 lead.

In the final quarter the Lady Hornets got as close as six points on two occasions but were unable to fully recover from the Bearcats 15-5 run that happened in the second quarter.

Binghamton shot 22-of-48 from the field (45.8%) an inefficient 3-of-13 on three-point attempts (23.1%) and made 28-of-34 (82.4%) free throws.

Delaware State made just 23-64 (35.9) field goal attempts, a paltry 3-of-20 (15.0%) from beyond-the-arc and 17-of-26 (65.4%) from the charity stripe.
