Dover, Del. (Aug. 28, 2019) --- The Delaware State women's soccer team will be home for the first time this season when VMI pays a visit to Alumni Stadium on Thursday. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

The Hornets will also be home on Sunday to face Marist at 1:00 p.m.

Delaware State is seeking its first win of the new season. DSU opened the year at with road losses to St. Peter's (3-1) and Wagner (5-0). VMI (0-1) suffered a 1-0 loss to Hampton in its season opener.

Savannah Ay (so.) scored the Hornets' lone goal this season in the second period of the St. Peter's contest.

Delaware State and VMI are meeting for the second straight year and seventh time overall. The Keydets hold a 0-4-2 lead in the series. VMI won the last meeting 4-0 in Lexington, Va., a year ago.

The teams played to a 1-1 two-overtime tie the last time they met at Delaware State in 2014.

The 2019 Hornets feature 14 veterans and nine newcomers. Ay is the top return scorer with four goals last season.  Alyssa Coustenis (sr.) had a goal and two assists to rank fourth on the Hornets with four points a year ago.

DSU also returns veteran defender  Toni Washington (sr.), along with forwards/midfielder Braxton Clark (sr.), Katrina Silva (sr.), Jasmine Warren (sr.) and Ashley Ventura (jr.).

Franchesska Ramirez (so.) has started the first two contests in goal this season after competing in four matches as a freshman in 2018.
