Greensboro, N.C. (Feb. 9) --- The Delaware State Hornets were defeated by the North Carolina A&T Aggies 82-52, Saturday evening at the Corbett Sports Center. The Hornets fall to 4-19 overall, and 1-9 in the MEAC.

DSU had no answer for the Aggies’ reserve Amari Hamilton. The redshirt senior scored 27 points on a perfect 9-of-9 from the field, including 7-of-7 on three-point attempts. Hamilton did all his damage in only 13 minutes of play.

The Hornets trailed 17-9 with 10:56 left in the first half but went on a 11-4 run capped off by a jumper from Ameer Bennett, cutting the deficit to just one at 21-20 with 7:01 remaining. Two dunks by Ronald Jackson sparked a 13-4 Aggies run. Included in that spurt by NCA&T was two three-pointers from Amari Hamilton. Their flurry was capped off by another dunk, this time from Tyrone Lyons, giving the Aggies a 34-24 lead heading into halftime.

The Aggies scored 24 points in the paint in the first half and finished the game with 40 points in the paint. NC A&T forward Ronald Jackson finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Delaware State trailed by just 12 points, 42-30 after a jumper from D’Marco Baucum with 15:37 left in the game. The Aggies responded with a 23-4 run, highlighted by a four-point play from Amari Hamilton, giving NC A&T a 65-34 lead with just under eight minutes left in the game.

Delaware State struggled to score all game long. They shot just 18-of-71 (25.4%) from the floor, and they were even worse on their three-point attempts converting on just 3-of-23 (13.0%).

Ameer Bennett was a bright spot for DSU. Bennett led three Hornets in double digit scoring, with 13 points (4-of-8 from the floor) he also added five rebounds.  Kevin Larkin returned from his one game absence and recorded a double-double. Larkin had 12 points (5-of-20 on field goal attempts) and 11 rebounds. D’Marco Baucum added 10 points (6-for-6 from the free throw line).

North Carolina A&T made 31-of-62 (50.0%) from the field, including 8-of-22 (36.4%) from beyond-the-arc. They also converted on 12-of-20 (60.0%) from the charity stripe.

Aggie reserves Nelson Nweke and Tyrone Lyons combined for 19 points. North Carolina A&T outscored Delaware State 48-11 in bench points.
