Dover, Del. (Apr. 3, 2018) --- The Delaware State Equestrian Team has again qualified for national post-season competition. The Hornets have been selected to compete against the nation’s best in the 2018 National Collegiate Equestrian Association Event Championships Apr. 18-21 in Waco, Tex.

Under the new NCEA tournament format, event championships were added, allowing schools to vie for national titles in Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat, in addition to Western Horsemanship and Reining.

Delaware State will compete in each of the four events.

The Hornets are seeded sixth in the Flat national championship field, its best seeding in the four events. DSU is No. 10 in the Reining field, 12th in Horsemanship and 13th in Fences.

The top eight programs in the country will also vie for the 2018 overall team championship. The Hornets were not selected for the national team championship field, which has been reduced to eight schools from 12 in the past.

The post-season selections mark the latest achievement for the 2017-18 Hornets, whose achievements include multiple MOP awards, including a sweep in the four events in a victory over North Dakota State.

Also this season, Delaware State defeated No. 7 Baylor, while the Hornet Flat riders upset powerhouse Georgia, winning three of the four rides in the competition. Georgia was ranked overall No. 1 in the country at the time and is the top seed in the upcoming national team championship, Flat, Horsemanship and Reining events.

DSU’s Hayley Anderson and Cheyenne Adams also garnered United Equestrian Conference Rider-of-the-Month honors this season.
