Phila., Pa. (Oct. 2, 2017) --- Delaware State kept Penn off the board for nearly 61 minutes, then allowed another score in the closing seconds in a 2-0 loss to the Quakers at Rhoades Field Monday evening.
The Hornet defense held Penn to just seven shots, two on goal, in the scoreless opening period. Delaware State managed just one first period shot.
Penn broke the ice when Emily Sands fired a shot over the head of DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio off a feed from Paige Howard in the 61st minute (60:54).
The Hornets were still only down one when the Quakers struck again in the closing moments of the match.
Maddie Dawkins dribbled nearly the length of the field before launching a shot past Fazio with just 19 seconds remaining in the match.
Penn outshot DSU 19-2 in the contest. Fazio was credited with four saves for the Hornets.
Delaware State’s next contest will be at home this Friday against Hampton. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The Hornets will recognize their 2017 seniors prior to the contest.
