The veteran coach is in the third year of his second stint with the Hornets. He was appointed as associate head coach in 2016 and offensive coordinator earlier this year.  In addition to continuing his duties as running backs coach, White will serve as the primary play caller for the offense this season.  

In 2016 with White as running backs coach, DSU was No. 6 in the MEAC in rushing at 128.7 ypg, the team's best league finish since 2006.

Also, halfback Mike Waters was selected to the 2016 Hero College Sports News FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) Freshman All-America Team. A 2016 All-MEAC Third Team selection, Waters was tops on the Hornets and third in the league in rushing at 74.5 yards per game this season. He rushed for a DSU freshman record 820 yards and five touchdowns last season. Waters closed out the 2016 campaign with a career-best 224 yards (two TDs) vs. Howard, also a Hornet freshman record, and Delaware State's first 200-yard rushing game since 2008.

White previously served as DSU's running backs/tight ends coach in 2005. That year, the Hornets won five of their last six games to post a 7-4 overall record, the team's first winning season since 2000.

White has more than 27 years of collegiate coaching experience, including stints with ACC, Big East, PAC-10 and Mountain West Conference schools.

Prior to returning to the Hornets, White was offensive coordinator at Lincoln University in 2013. From 2012 to '13, he was assistant head coach and wide receivers coach at Fordham University. The previous year, he was running backs coach at the University of New Mexico.

From 2006 to '11, White was assistant head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Southeast Missouri State.

He was head coach at Saint Mary's College from 2003 to '04; and running backs coach at Utah (2001-02), Arizona State (2000) and Pittsburgh (1997-99). He was joined on the Pittsburgh staff by current Delaware State head coach Kenny Carter.

White has also served as receivers coach at Southern Methodist (1994; 1995-96) and Maryland (1994); and was offensive coordinator/receivers coach at Pacific (1990-92), Tennessee-Martin (1989) and Oregon Tech (1986-88).

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater Stanford in 1983. As a player at Stanford, White was an All-PAC 10 First Team, All-West Coast First Team and Honorable Mention All-America running back in 1982. That season, he led all NCAA Div. I players with 68 receptions. White was selected by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the 1983 NFL Draft; and competed for the Denver Gold of the United States Football League from 1983 to '85. He earned a bachelor's in Sociology from Stanford in 1984.
