Dover, Del. (Oct. 3, 2017) --- The Delaware State volleyball team fell to Rider and dropped its MEAC opener at Howard this past weekend.
The scores in the Rider match 25-18, 25-15 and 25-14. NaKia Jones and freshman Kiera Holtzclaw led the Hornets with seven kills each, while teammate Alliyah McBean recorded 14 digs to tie for the match high.
DSU’s Gabriella Enriquez led DSU with 23 assists.
In the Howard contest, Holtzclaw again tied for team-high honors with five kills, sharing the lead with Sydney Armbrister.
McBean led the Hornets with 12 digs to give her 985 in her career. She has reached double figures in digs in 11 of the Hornets’ 15 matches this season.
Enriquez had a team-high 17 assists in the Howard match.
Delaware State (0-15; 0-1 MEAC) returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 4) at American University in Washington, D.C. The match begins at 7 p.m.
The Hornets will play their 2017 home opener this Friday (Oct. 6) against MEAC rival Hampton. The contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
