Norfolk, Va. (Sep. 16, 2019) --- The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has cited Delaware State outside hitter Ryanne “Cookie’ Burnett (fr.) for the second consecutive week.

Burnett was named MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week again today after averaging nearly three kills and two digs per set in four matches for the Hornets, who posted a 2-2 overall record, including a 2-1 mark in the Lafayette Classic last week. She recorded a double-double (17 kills, 11 digs) against Siena, hitting a week-best .341 in the match.

Burnett tallied 16 kills against Saint Peter’s in the previous match and recorded nine kills, six digs and two service aces against Merrimack on Sep. 14.

The Kane’ohe, Hi., native posted a .226 hitting percentage for the week.

So far this season, Burnett ranks eighth in the MEAC in kills at 2.77 per set (108 total). She’s second on the Hornets in kills and third on the team with a .215 attack percentage.

Burnett was also named MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week on Sep. 9. DSU’s Anadys Valentin was the first recipient of the award this season, earning the honor on Sep. 2.

The DSU volleyball team will play its next match at American University on Tuesday (Sep. 17). The contest is set for 7:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.

Delaware State volleyball
