Dover, Del. (Nov. 8, 2016) --- Delaware State stayed close in two sets, but fell short in a 3-0 loss to NJIT in the 2016 finale for the Hornets. The scores were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22.
Tess Alby led all players with 11 kills, while Adriana Nieto had a match-high 12 digs to lead the Highlanders (10-21).
Jae Jackson, playing in her final collegiate contest, led the Hornets with eight kills. Sabina Szmajduch (jr.) was second on the team with six kills and nine digs, while senior Jenessa Helu recorded five kills and four block assists.
NJIT posted a .144 hitting percentage in the match, recording 35 kills and 21 errors on 97 attacks. The Highlanders tallied 39 kills, six service aces and five blocks.
The Hornets tallied 25 kills and 19 errors in 91 attempts for a .066 attack percentage. DSU had 33 digs and nine blocks and one ace.
Jackson and Helu, along with injured fellow senior Ariana Stevens were honored prior to the match.
Delaware State ended the 2016 season with a 1-28 overall record.
