Dover, Del. (Nov. 6, 2016) --- The Delaware State volleyball team wrapped up its 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-0 loss to UMES in Memorial Hall this afternoon.

The scores were 25-16, 25-17 and 25-18.

Lucia Babic and Rachel Kayongo led a balanced UMES attack with nine kills each, while Mere Serea had seven.

Danyelle Tucker topped all Delaware State players with six kills. DSU’s Jenessa Helu was next on the team with five.  Aaliyah McBean led the Hornets with a match-high nine digs.

The Hawks posted a .418 attack percentage in the match, tallying 36 kills and eight errors on 67 attempts. UMES had 35 assists, including a match-high 30 by Ivana Blazevic.

Delaware State recorded 24 kills and 17 errors on 74 attacks for a .095 hitting percentage.

In the first set, the Hornets led 3-0 before UMES took control. The Hawks scored nine of the next 13 points to open up a 9-7 lead.

UMES used an 11-2 run midway through the set to open up a 21-12 lead.

Delaware State trailed 16-8 in the second set, but battled back to pull to within 18-16. The Hawks scored the last five points to win the set.

UMES led by as many as 10 points in their set three win.

Delaware State will close out its 2016 season at home with a non-conference match against NJIT on Tuesday (Nov. 8). The Hornets will honor seniors Ariana Stevens, Jenessa Helu and Jae Jackson prior to the 7 p.m. match.
