The Delaware State Women’s Tennis team enters the 2019 spring season Friday, March 1 at Washington College in Chestertown, Md.

Under the watchful eyes of second year Head Coach John Williamson, the Lady Hornets have high hopes for what this spring season is to bring, with the ultimate goal being a ticket to the MEAC Championships. With three of the six team members being seniors, Williamson feels the team is ready to make a mark in the MEAC as it brings the experience and talent necessary to reach the playoffs.

“We’re really looking forward to a good season,” said Williamson. “The girls have been putting in the work and giving one hundred percent to make this season the most successful one yet. We are focused on building off the successes from the fall and learning from past matches. The team is excited to begin the new season.”

The Lady Hornets have spent the last year under Coach Williamson working to restructure and evolve the program. He spoke highly of the current roster and his desire to produce winners.

“The dream is to build a championship program. The girls have really committed mentally to what it takes to be a successful Division I athlete and the changes I have seen in their leadership and dedication are unparalleled. They are working as a unit and team, which is huge in a sport that has so many individualistic qualities,” said Williamson.

The tennis team is currently preparing for the coming matches at their winter training facility in Dover.
