Dover, Del. (Apr. 15, 2018) --- The Delaware State women’s tennis team completed a sweep of three matches this weekend with a victory over St. Francis Brooklyn at the Billie Jean Tennis Center, home of the U.S. Open, today.

The Hornets won the match 5-1, taking four of the five completed singles matches and earning a point for two victories in doubles.

In the singles competition, DSU’s Sofia Rachi and Cassandra Boltman won in straight sets. Rachi defeated Laura Dimante 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 contest,  while Boltman posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Andrea Rojo at No. 2.

DSU’s Elvira Galieva improved to 6-0 in singles this season with a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win against Sara Stankovic in the No. 5 match.

Alina Polyvana posted the Hornets’ fourth singles win at No. 4 with a 6-0, 5-7, 10-5 victory over Runsi Patro.

Rachi and Boltman also teamed up for a 6-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles match, while Polyvana and Anastasia Belkina were 6-3 winners at No. 2 doubles.

Delaware State began the weekend with a pair of shutout victories over Maryland-Eastern Shore, winning 7-0 in each contest.

The Hornets and Hawks played eight- game pro sets In the first match.

Polyvana (No. 3), Aayushi Chouhan (No. 4) and Boltman (No. 5) won by 8-0 scores, while Galieva (No. 1) and Rachi (No. 2) were 8-2 winners.

Delaware State won the two contested doubles contests by 8-0 scores.

In the second DSU/MDES match, the Hornets won each of the five competitive singles contests in straight sets, highlighted by 6-0, 6-0 victories by Boltman at No. 2 and Galieva at No. 5.           

Belkina dropped just one game, posting a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 3 match.

Rachi was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 1 and Polyvana won the No. 4 contest by the same score.
