Hampton, Va. (May 2, 2010) --- Kelly Saunders smacked a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Hampton to a 4-3 MEAC softball win over Delaware State today.

Hampton trailed 3-1 when Saunders hit a pitch from Delaware State's Brittany Ruark over the left field fence to give the Pirates a two-games-to-one series win.

Delaware State scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The first run scored on a passed ball, and Chelsea Stern knocked in the second DSU run on a one-out single.

The Hornets stretched their lead to 3-1 on a run-scoring single by Rachel Carroll in the sixth inning.

Stern and Carroll had two hits each for DSU. Hampton had just four hits in the contest. Delaware State starter Andrea Waters allowed one hit and one run, while striking out four, in three innings.

The Hornets return to action next Saturday with a doubleheader against Morgan State. The first game starts at 2:00 p.m. DSU will wrap up the 2010 regular season with a single game against Morgan State on Sunday at 2.
