Dover, Del. (Mar. 5, 2019) --- Delaware State softball’s Jasmine Melgoza (jr.) and Jonah Cunnigan (fr.) have been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their performances last week. Melgoza was selected as the MEAC Player-of-the-Week after collecting 10 hits in 17 at bats (.588), with a home run, two doubles and four scored in five games at the Hampton University Pirate Invitational last weekend. The Huntington Beach, Cal., native was four-for-four at the plate in the Hornets’ 6-5 tournament win over St. Peter’s on Mar. 2.

A 2019 Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection, Melgoza is batting .472 in the Hornets’ 11 games this season.

Cunnigan was named MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week after batting .571 (8-for-14)  with three stolen bases and four runs scored at the Pirate Invitational. The Corona, Cal., native was five-for-six in tournament contests against St. Peter’s and North Carolina Central on Mar. 3.

Cunnigan’s performance last weekend raised her season average to .394, second best on the team.

The Hornets (2-9) return to action at the HBCU Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., this weekend.
