Dover, Del. (Feb. 1, 2019) --- Delaware State shortstop Jasmine Melgoza (jr.) was named to the 2019 Preseason All-MEAC Softball First Team, in voting by league head coaches and sports information representatives released this week.

Melgoza, a 2018 All-MEAC First Team selection, started all 48 games for the Hornets as a sophomore, batting .253 (37-for-146) with one home run and 14 RBI. She was third on the team in hits, while ranking fourth in runs scored (20) and doubles (7) last season.

Melgoza is the only Delaware State player to earn 2019 Preseason All-MEAC honors.

Also, DSU has been picked to finish third in the 2019 MEAC Softball Northern Division race. The Hornets collected four first place votes and 96 total points in the poll. Morgan State is the voters’ choice to capture the Northern Division crown this season.

Florida A&M is picked to win the 2019 MEAC Southern Division race. The Rattlers received 13 first place votes and 129 total points, while Bethune-Cookman was a close second with nine first place votes and 127 points.

The 2019 Delaware State softball season begins Feb. 15 against Robert Morris in the Liberty University Tournament.
