Dover, Del. (Apr. 14, 2017) --- Delaware State looks to keep alive its hopes in the MEAC North softball race in a key series at home with division leader Morgan State this weekend. The Hornets and Bears will play a doubleheader at the Hornets’ Nest today, beginning at 2:30 p.m. and wrap up the series with a single game on Saturday at noon.  

The Hornets are third in the MEAC North with an 8-3 record. Morgan State is first with a 6-0 mark, followed by Hampton at 5-1. Morgan State and Hampton have yet to play this season.

Delaware State is 4-0 at home this season. Outfielder Mika Lumsden (jr.) is the team’s leading hitter with a .312 average. She has two home runs and is tied for second on the Hornets with 13 runs batted in.

Freshman catcher Desireee Moreno is a MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year candidate. She’s batting .295, tops the Hornets with 22 RBI and is tied for the team lead with four home runs.

Freshman Hannah Shields is the team leader with five pitching wins. She also has team-highs of 45 strikeouts and two shutouts.

Senior Kate Vosper leads Morgan State with a .450 average, while Amy Begg is one of the MEAC’s top pitchers with a 9-1 record and 0.63 earned run average. She has 72 strikeouts in 72 innings in the circle.
