Dover, Del. (May 8, 2013) --- Delaware State University’s Ashley Bennett (fr.) and Rochelle Sablay (fr.) have been named to the 2013 All-Mid-Eastern Conference Softball First Team, while Nicolle Gazzolla (fr.) and Sandy Hawthorne (fr.) earned second team honors, in voting by league head coaches and sports information representatives announced today.

Bennett, selected as the All-MEAC first baseman, is batting .315 and is tied for third in the MEAC with seven home runs this season.

Sablay was voted as the first team utility player. She’s batting .333 and is second in the MEAC with 44 runs batted in.

Gazzolla, a MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year candidate, is second in the league in hitting (.452) and tops in runs scored (52).

Hawthorne, the MEAC’s second team catcher is batting .315 with 26 RBI this season.

Norfolk State’s Haley Ward was selected as the 2013 MEAC Player-of-the-Year, while Hampton’s Jailynn Jackson is the top pitcher. Savannah State’s Torrian Wright is the Rookie-of-the-Year and Bethune-Cookman Chris Cochran was selected by his peers as the MEAC’s Coach-of-the-Year.
