Dover, Del. (May 4, 2013) ---  Jess Madrid smacked two homers and Jenn Fischbach tossed a complete game to lead Delaware State to a 4-2 victory over UMES in the second game of a doubleheader at DSU today.

The Hawks took the opener 7-4.

In the nightcap, the game was scoreless until the DSU third when Nicole Gazzolla and Chloe Oro singled ahead of Madrid’s  third homer of the season over  the fence in right center to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead.

UMES scored two runs in the fifth to pull to within 3-2.

Madrid gave the Hornets an insurance run with her fourth homer of the year, a solo shot to center in the sixth.  She was 3-for-3 with four RBI in game two.

Fischbach allowed six hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out three to earn the win in the nightcap.

In the opener. UMES scored five runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The Hornets got back into the game with four runs in the fifth. Ashley Bennett and Rochelle Sablay had run-scoring doubles, while Madrid and Gazzolla singled in runs in the fifth.

UMES plated two insurance runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.

 Madrid was 2-for-4 in the opener. She was 5-for-7 with five RBI in the doubleheader.

Gazzolla had two hits in the twin-bill to move to within one of the DSU single season record. The current  record of 77 was set by Jordan Reid in 2011.  

The Hornets and Hawks will close out the series with a single game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The contest will also mark the regular season finale for DSU.
