Dover, Del. (Apr. 7, 2013) --- The Delaware State University softball team will play at home on Saturday for the first time in three weeks to take on Howard in a MEAC North doubleheader. Game one gets underway at 2:00 p.m. 

The Hornets are currently third in the North standings with a 7-5 mark in league games. The top four teams in the division qualify for the MEAC Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla., next month.

Howard is last in the North at 1-13.

The young Hornets are batting .288 as a team. Five regulars are hitting .300 or higher.

Nicole Gazzolla (fr.) tops the team with a .418 average. She also leads the club in hits (64), runs scored (33) and stolen bases (17).

Ashley Bennett (fr.) leads the Hornets with five home runs, while Rochelle Sablay (fr.) has a team-high 30 runs batted in.

On the mound, Stephanie Sarris tops the team with eight wins.

There are 11 freshmen on the 15-player Delaware State roster.

The Hornets and Bison will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
