Buffalo, N.Y. (Sep. 18, 2019) --- Canisius scored the lone goal of the match in the 56th minute to defeat Delaware State in a women’s soccer contest this evening. The match was scoreless until Lexi Perry fired a shot past Hornet goal keeper Franchesska Ramirez shortly after a corner kick by the Griffs.
The teams played even in the first period. Canisius goal keeper Alana Rossi turned away three Delaware State shots, while Hornet keeper Fabrea McCray had two saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Rossi went the distance in goal for the Griffs to earn the shutout win.
The Hornets were outshot 12-4 overall in the match.
Canisius won its fourth straight contest to improve to 5-2-0, while DSU fell to 0-9-0 this season.
The Hornets return to action next Tuesday (Sep. 24) to take on Loyola (Md.). The match is set for 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
