Dover, Del. (Sep. 1, 2017) --- Lafayette scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and never looked back in a 3-1 victory over Delaware State in a women’s soccer contest at Alumni Stadium Friday evening.

The Leopards struck first just six minutes into the contest (6:06) when Gabrielle Lassinger fired a shot past DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio off feeds from Gabrielle Martone and Sophie Saldivar.

Less than two minutes later (7:47) later, Lafayette’s Katie Brannigan scored from close range off an assist from Martone to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Leopards (2-1) completed their scoring when Rebekka Arnthorsdottir booted a shot from 20 yards away into the net to put the Hornets down 3-0 just under 10 minutes into the match (9:57).

Delaware State got onto the board in the second period when Kayleigh Leschinski scored on a penalty kick in the 66th minute (65:41). The goal was the third in her career and first this season.

The Hornets appeared to cut further into the deficit but a shot by Katrina Silva was turned away on a leaping save by Lafayette goal keeper Kelly O’Brien, who deflected the ball off the cross bar and back into play.

DSU (0-6) is back in action on Sunday at Hartford. The match begins at 2 p.m. in West Hartford, Conn.
