Dover, Del. (Oct. 21, 2016) --- The Delaware State women’s soccer team wrapped up its 2016 season with a 1-1 tie against South Carolina State at Alumni Stadium this evening. The Hornets ended the year with back-to-back ties to finish their first season under head coach Kourtney Rhoades with an overall record of 4-9-2. DSU played to a scoreless tie against NJIT in its previous match.
South Carolina State scored first on an unassisted goal by Mary Pierce just before halftime (44:04).
Delaware State tied the match when Braxton Clark scored her team-leading third goal of the season off a feed from Katrina Silva in the 62nd minute.
The teams were unable to break the tie in two 10-minute overtime periods.
Delaware State outshot SC State 11-9.
Hornet goal keeper Leslie Fazio played the second period and the two overtimes, recording four saves.
South Carolina State goal keeper Mahogany Fisher played all 110 minutes, also collecting four saves.
The match marked the final collegiate contest for Delaware State seniors Ayanna Smith, Dina Isham, Morgan Pottinger, Taylor Pratcher, Tori Hamilton and Elise Pratt.
