Greensboro, NC. (May. 6, 2017) --- The Hornet's Women Track and Field program finished in 10th place, scoring 31 total points at the MEAC Championships. Chloe Franks and Faleesha Dowe brought home the two medals for the Hornets squad.
Chloe Franks put on another sensational performance on her way to her second career silver medal (she won her first silver medal during the MEAC Indoor Championships earlier this year). Franks finished with a mark of 3.29 meters in the Pole Vault. Her performance gave DSU eight points in the event.
Faleesha Dowe set a DSU record with (4588 points) in the Heptathlon. Dowe's record setting performance gave her a third-place finish and brought home a bronze medal for the Hornets. In addition, she gave DSU six points in the event.
Precious Igwebuike who totaled a career high 4384 points did not medal on the day. However, her fifth-place performance in the Heptathlon gave the Hornets an additional three points.
Omealla Gordon placed first in the 400 meter preliminaries, with a time of 54.67 seconds. Gordon ran a time of 55.25 in the 400 meter finals. Her peformance was not good enough for a medal, but her fifth place finish gave DSU four points. She also scored three points with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter finals, she had a recorded time of 24.24 (career best).
The Hornets quartet of Dowe, Gordon, Cydney Franks, and Leah White, finished fifth in the 4 x 400 relay. The group crossed the finish line with a time of 3-minutes-46.69 seconds. Their performance scored them four points.Next on the schedule for DSU, is the ECAC/IC4A Championships. This prestigious meet starts on May. 20, at Princeton, N.J.
