Baltimore, MD. (Feb. 3) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets had a dominant showing, at the Eastern Shore Invite over the weekend. The Lady Hornets finished second overall in team score, and had four individuals finish in first place.
Nissa Martinez-Smith had a terrific outing over the weekend, Martinez-Smith finished sixth in the 60 meters with a season’s best time of 8.06 seconds. The freshman also finished fourth in the 200 meters with 26.26 seconds, most importantly she finished first in the 60-meter hurdles, with a season’s best time of 8.90 seconds.
Jashella Jenkins was not too far behind her teammate Martinez-Smith, she finished in third place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08 seconds.
Katarzyna Rosikon finished first in the mile with a season’s best time of 5-minutes-25.48 seconds.
Cydney Davis placed third (1:00.79) Donyae Shelton (1:01.38), Leah White (1:02.45), and T’Keyah Macklin (1:04.42) finished third, fourth, sixth, and ninth respectively in the 400 meters.
Janae Pitt (2:22.02), Sylvia Okafor (2:24.69), Lananda Correia (2:31.16), and Mone’t Peterson (2:32.78) finished fourth, sixth, and seventh respectively in the 800 meters.
The quartet of Faleesha Dowe, Janae Pitt, Donyae Shelton, and Cydney Davis placed second in the 4 x 400 relay (4:02.18) while the group comprised of Leah White, Tyra Coach, Loren Harris, and Nissa Martinez-Smith finished third (4:04.85) in the same event.
Amber Conyers finished first with a career best distance of 11.39 meters in the triple jump.
Egypt Parker placed first in the Shot put with a mark of 12.96 meters, her teammate Victoria Wilson was right behind her with a second-place finish (12.65 m).
In addition, Parker finished second in the weight throw (14.12 m).
Tiajah Robinson finished third in the high jump (1.45 m). Loren Harris placed third in the long jump (5.35 m).
Donyae Shelton (2548 points), Ahnrea McCaskill (2246 points), and Loren Harris (1930 points) finished second, third, and fourth respectively at the Pentathlon.
The Lady Hornets have rounded to form and are clicking on all cylinders, just in time for the MEAC championships which begin Feb. 15th in Landover, Maryland.
