Dover, Del. (May 25, 2019) --- Delaware State’s Grace Wilson, a member of the Hornets’ equestrian team, is an international champion. Wilson took first place in the 2019 Global Youth Reining Cup 15-to-18 competition in Cremona, Italy this week. The event is held in conjunction with the Italian Reining Horse Association Derby.

Wilson, the United States representative, rode “Jokin Whiz” to victory in the 19-nation competition.

“The format was very similar to our American collegiate competition,” said Wilson. “I felt very comfortable on the horse and was fortunate to win against some outstanding riders.”

Wilson was selected as the U.S. representative in the international competition by a National Reining Horse Association panel.

“It’s an amazing honor to represent the United States and Delaware State University in this international event,” Wilson said. “This has been the experience of a lifetime.”

Last month, Wilson helped lead the DSU Reining team to a Final Four showing at the National Collegiate Equestrian Championships in Waco, Tex. The Hornets defeated Tennessee Martin and stunned No. 2 Oklahoma State 4-0 before falling in the tournament semifinals.
