Martin, Tenn (Mar. 21, 2019) --- Delaware State’s Gabrielle Fournier (so.; Litchfield, Conn. ) has been named to the 2018-19 All-United Equestrian Conference Fences Team, the league announced during its pre-tournament banquet this evening.
Fournier’s season was highlighted by her selection as the National Collegiate Equestrian Association’s Equifit Equitation Over Fences September Rider of the Month after posting a perfect 4-0 Fences record for the month, with each victory against a nationally-ranked opponent. Her average winning margin was 29.5 points during the period.
Fournier also earned Most Outstanding Performer awards in Fences and on the Flat in the Hornets’ win over South Dakota State on Mar. 2.
In addition, she recorded the Hornets’ lone Fences point vs. nationally-ranked Baylor and Texas Christian this season.
Delaware State is the No. 2 seed in the 2019 United Equestrian Conference Tournament this weekend.
The Hornets will face No. 3 seed Fresno State in the tournament semifinals on Mar. 22. SMU is the tournament’s top seed.
The semifinal winners will battle for the tournament championship on Mar. 23 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavillion in Martin, Tenn.
Delaware State split two meetings with Fresno State during the 2018-19 regular season.
Delaware State won the first contest 9-6 on Sep. 29 in Waco, Tex. The Hornets won the Western competition 5-2, while the teams battled to a 4-4 tie in the Hunter Seat rides. Amber Van Segbrook (Reining) and Sydney Wicklund (Flat) earned Most Outstanding Performer honors in the first regular season meeting between the teams.
Fresno State won the second meeting 13-5 on Feb. 2 at its home facility in California.
Among the other tournament teams, the Hornets defeated Tennessee Martin 9-7 on Sep. 29, fell to SMU 8-6 on Nov. 16 and topped South Dakota State 10-9 on Mar. 2 during the 2018-19 season.
