Waco, Tex. (Oct. 6, 2019)—The Delaware State equestrian team squeaked by UC Davis before falling to host Baylor at BU’s Willis Invitational this weekend.

The Hornets opened the competition with a victory over UC Davis that was determined by a series of tiebreakers. DSU came out ahead after the final calculations 1150.5 to 1119.5.  

DSU won the Jumping Seat competition 5-3, while the Aggies were 5-3 winners in the Western rides.

Delaware State’s Erin Gordon was named Most Outstanding Performer in Fences after topping all competitors with a score of 78 aboard “Lucky Jack.”

Zoe Kirsch was also a winner for the Hornets in Fences, while Gordon, Sydney Wicklund and Miranda Adcock posted victories for DSU on the Flat vs. UC Davis.

In the Western competition, Grace Wilson and Kylie Bond had winning rides in Reining, while Blayne Bell earned a point for the Hornets in Horsemanship.

Wicklund (Fences), Bell (Horsemanship) and Wilson (Reining) also posted victories in the Hornets’ 12-3 loss to No. 8 Baylor.
