Davis, Cal. (Feb. 1, 2019) --- The University California Davis celebrated its first-ever women’s equestrian contest with a 10-5 victory over No. 9 Delaware State on Thursday. The Aggies won eight of the 10 Hunter Seat contests to highlight the victory.

The Hornets were 3-2 winners in Horsemanship, highlighted by Samantha Elliott’s winning performance. Elliott was named Most Outstanding Horsemanship Performer with a score of 75.5 aboard “Flash.”

Shelbe Jarrett (74.5) and Kelsey McArthur (72.0) also earned Horsemanship victories for the Hornets.

Sydney Wicklund, riding on “Cappo,”  posted DSU’s lone victory on the Flat with a total of 85.0, while Gabrielle Fournier led all Hornet Flat riders with a score of 86.

Erin Gordon was a winner for the Hornets in Fences with a score off 77 aboard “Gracie,” although Wicklund had a team-high Fences total of 82.

Delaware State will continue its California swing with contests against No. 1 Auburn and Fresno State on Sat. (Feb. 2) in Fresno, Cal.
