Athens, Ga. (Feb. 6, 2017) --- The Delaware State equestrian team took it on the chin against national heavyweights Georgia and South Carolina last weekend.

The Hornets fell to No.8 South Carolina 14-6 and were upended by No. 7 Georgia 18-2.

In the South Carolina contest, the Gamecocks were victorious 7-3 in both the Hunt Seat and Western competitions.

In the Western competition, the Hornets recorded two wins in Reigning.

DSU’s Shelbe Garrett was Most Outstanding Performer in the competition with a score of 69 aboard “Ashe.”

Lizzy Koons (“Garth”) was also a Reigning winner for the Hornets, posting a score of 68.5.

Emily Fick rode “Forrest” to a score of 70 to earn Delaware State’s lone point in Horsemanship vs. South Carolina.

In the Hunt Seat event, Delaware State’s Hayley Anderson and Rachel Dantley were winners in Fences.   Anderson tallied a score of 84 aboard “Romeo,” third-best among all competitors in the event.

Dantley, riding on “Granit,” posted a winning score of 78.

Molly Gara (“Posh’) was Delaware State’s lone winner on the Flat with a team-high score of 78.

In the Georgia contest, the Hornets were outscored 8-2 in the Western competition and 10-0 in the Hunt Seat rides.

Koons picked up her second victory of the weekend with a score of 67.5 aboard “Smoke” in Reigning.

Blayne Bell was the Hornets only other winner vs. Georgia, collecting a point for her score of 73 on “Tuffy” in Horsemanship.
