Smyrna, Del. (Sep. 7, 2019) --- An eighth place finish by senior Sylvia Okafor was the highlight for Delaware State’s women in the season opening Hornet Invitational at DSU’s Outreach and Research Center this morning.

Okafor was the first DSU runner to cross the finish line with a time of 24-minutes-44 seconds on the 5K course.

Delaware State was fourth in the four-team women’s race with 81 points. Morgan State was the top team with 20 points, followed by Wesley (60) in second place and Coppin State (64) third.

Morgan State had six of the top nine individual finishers en route to its first place performance.

Sierra Cruz (jr.) was second on the Hornets with a 12th place finish, posting a time 25:35.

Tatiana Ogundeko was the overall No. 1 women’s finisher, completing the course in 19-minutes-44 seconds.
