Dover, Del. (Oct. 1, 2019) --- Delaware State ranks 15th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association 2019-20 Preseason Poll of top 25 women’s college  bowling teams.

The Hornets received 531 points in the poll, which is headed by two-time national champ Vanderbilt, which collected 18 of 46 first place votes and 1671 total points.

McKendree (Neb.), Stephen F. Austin, Nebraska and Sam Houston State round of the top five in the poll.

In addition to Delaware State, fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference members Maryland-Eastern Shore and North Carolina A&T appear in the preseason poll.

MDES, the defending conference champ, is seventh and NCA&T is eighth in the rankings.

The Hornets, led by 2019-20 Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection Alexis Neuer (sr.) and reigning MEAC Rookie-of-the-Year Stefanny Toala, ended the 2018-19 season with a third place finish in the 32-team Intercollegiate Team Championships, DSU’s best national tournament showing since reaching the Final 4 of the 2009 NCAA championship.     

Elysia Current, who led the Hornets to the 2016 MEAC championship, has returned to lead the program.   

Delaware State opens the 2019-20 season at the St. Mary’s (Md.) Shootout Oct.19-20. The first of two MEAC competitions is set for Nov. 8-10 in Glen Burnie, Md. The second conference meet is Feb. 22-23 in Pensacola, Fla.

The 2020 MEAC Championship is Mar. 20-22 in Chesapeake, Va.
