Dover, Del. (Mar. 10, 2019) --- The Delaware State bowling team will compete for a national championship this spring. The Hornets have qualified for the 2019 United States Bowling Congress XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships after finishing fourth in this weekend’s sectional competition in Stratford, N.J. The top four teams in the four sectional sites advance to the championship tournament April 17-20 in Dayton, OH.
Delaware State was fourth in the Stratford sectional with a total pinfall of 11804 in 64 games (184.4 avg.), trailing only Maryland-Eastern Shore (12476), Pikeville (11915) and Webber International (11885) in the 14 team competition.
This will be the Hornets’ fourth appearance in the USBC national champions. DSU could also qualify for the 2019 NCAA National Championship as the Mid-Eastern Conference champion. The MEAC championship tournament is later this month in Virginia Beach, Va.
The Hornets competed in the NCAA National Championship in 2009 and 2010. DSU advanced to the Final Four of the 2009 NCAA tourney.
DSU is ranked 12th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association monthly poll.
