Dover, Del. (Feb. 19, 2019) ---Delaware State freshman Stefanny Toala (fr.; Tucson, Ariz.) has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for her performance in the Hornets’ team championship at the James Brown Women’s Bowling Invitational in Towson, Md., last weekend.
Toala was named MEAC Bowler-of-the-Week after topping all competitors with a total pinfall of 1056 for an average of 211.2 in five traditional tournament games. Her performance was highlighted by a career-best 279 vs. Virginia State, the top single-game score in the MEAC this season.
Her previous season-high of 278 is tied for second in the league this season.
Delaware State posted an 11-2 overall record, including a 5-0 record in traditional games, to win the James Brown Invitational championship.
The Hornets, ranked 13th in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 poll, defeated fellow MEAC member and No. 6 Maryland-Eastern Shore to claim the tournament title.
Delaware State will compete in the second MEAC round-up of the season this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 23-24) in Greensboro, N.C.
The top six teams will qualify for the MEAC championship next month in Virginia Beach, Va. The Hornets were fourth after the first conference round-up last November.
