Millsboro, Del. (Dec. 3, 2017) --- First place Delaware State posted a 7-1 overall record in the second MEAC North Bowling competition of the season this weekend to increase its lead in the division standings.
The Hornets were 4-0 in Baker competition today after winning three of four traditional games on Saturday.
Delaware State leads the 2017-18 MEAC North race with a 14-2 record, 7-1 in both Baker and traditional contests. The Hornets are seeking their second straight division title.
DSU was undefeated in today’s Baker matches, posting wins over Morgan State (892-846), Howard (931-804), MDES (933-882) and Coppin State (880-796).
In Saturday’s traditional contests, the Hornets were winners over Howard (906-750), Coppin State (967-795) and Morgan State (1038-860), and suffered their lone defeat to MDES (838-956).
Elizabeth Burkholder (sr.) was Delaware State’s individual leader with a total pinfall of 827 in four contests for an average of 206.8, highlighted by a top score of 230 vs. Morgan State.
Chelsey Merklinger (sr.) was second on the Hornets with a 194.8 average in the competition, recording a total pinfall of 779 in four games, while Alexis Neuer (so.) tallied 744 for a 186.0 average.
Delaware State, ranked 12th in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 poll, is 38-14 overall this season.
