Dover, Del. (June 28, 2017) --- The 2016-17 Delaware State bowling team has earned national recognition for its work in the classroom.
The National Tenpin Coaches Association has released its annual list of teams with “exemplary” grade-point averages for the 2016-17 academic year. To be considered for team recognition, programs must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Delaware State was 10th among the 32 programs that reached the standard with a team GPA of 3.471.
In addition, seven Hornets are among 229 student-athletes earning NTCA All-Academic recognition by maintaining at least a 3.4 GPA for the 2016-17 school year.
Delaware State's NTCA All-Academic bowlers are Elizabeth Burkholder (jr.; Lancaster, Pa.), Samantha DeLong (fr.; Middleburg, Pa.), Amoni Knight (sr.; Dover, Del.), Olivia Laird (so.; Middletown, Del.)l Amber MacLeod (jr.; Brick, N.J.), Ashley Merritt (fr.; Grove City, Pa.) and Alexis Neuer (fr.; Lewisburg, Pa.).
First-year head coach Kayla Stamm led the Hornets to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division title, while Neuer was named MEAC co-Rookie of the Year and competed for the United States Bowling Congress national singles championship during the 2016-17 season.
