Delaware State’s Alexis Neuer (jr.) is the favorite to repeat as the top bowler in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the upcoming season. Neuer has been selected as the 2018-19 MEAC Preseason Bowler-of-the-Year, in voting by league head coaches and sports information representatives announced today.
Joining Neuer on the 2018-19 Preseason All-MEAC Team are Ana Olaya and Cameron Strombeck of defending conference champ North Carolina A&T, Alexandra Hernandez of Maryland-Eastern Shore and Taylor Russell of Alabama Birmingham, which has joined the MEAC, along with Monmouth University, as an associate members for bowling.
Neuer was the 2017-18 MEAC Bowler-of-the-Year and All-MEAC First Team selection after leading Delaware State to its second straight MEAC North Championship. She also topped all league competitors with a single-game high of 296 at the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Sectionals and was a five-time MEAC Bowler-of-the-Week as a sophomore last season. In addition, she competed for the USBC National Singles Championship for the second year in a row during the 2017-18 campaign.
The MEAC also announced its predicted order of finish for the upcoming season. The 2018-19 MEAC bowling season will consist of an 11-team regular season race, replacing the two-division format (North & South) of recent years.
Delaware State has been picked to finish third in the 2018-19 race with four first-place votes and 194 total points. North Carolina A&T is the voters’ choice to repeat as conference champs, collecting 10 of 22 first place votes and 224 total points. Maryland –Eastern Shore has been picked to finish second with 205 points and six first-place votes.
