Chesapeake, Va. (Mar. 24, 2018) --- The Delaware State bowling team was one win away from its second MEAC Tournament championship game appearance in three years, but came up short today.
The Hornets fell to defending conference champ Maryland-Eastern 4-2 in an elimination Baker contest to end their tournament run. It was the third meeting between the teams today.
After defeating MDES 4-2 earlier in the day, DSU was a win away from advancing to Sunday’s tournament final.
The Hawks stayed alive in the tourney with a 4-1 victory over the Hornets to drop DSU to the elimination bracket.
In the deciding contest, Delaware State dropped the opening game 226-157. The Hornets bounced back to win the next two contests, 200-180 and 202-172, to take a 2-1 lead.
MDES evened the match with a convincing 268-163 victory in game four.
Game five went down to the final frame, but the Hawks held on for a 190-178 win.
The Hornets fell 207-170 in game six.
Maryland-Eastern Shore will face North Carolina A&T on Sunday in a rematch of the 2017 MEAC bowling championship.
The tournament champ earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Bowling Tournament.
