Norfolk, Va. (Mar. 21, 2017) --- Delaware State junior Elizabeth Burkholder has been named to the 2016-17 All-MEAC Bowling First Team, in voting by league head coaches and sports information representatives announced today.
Also, Hornet freshman Alexis Neuer was selected as a MEAC Co-Rookie of the Year, while junior Chelsey Merklinger is an All-MEAC Third Team honoree.
Burkholder, a 2016-17 Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection and 2015-16 Third team pick, is averaging 189.1 in regular team games this season. She was named MEAC Bowler of the Week on Nov. 8 after averaging nearly 213 in five games at the Sam Houston Kat Klash Invitational.
Neuer has a team-best 197.7 average this season. Earlier this month, Neuer qualified for the USBC national singles championship with a 212 yard average to rank third out of 196 bowlers in the sectional competition. Her 2016-17 honors also include MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week (Mar. 21) and Monmouth Hawk Flight All-Tournament Team.
Merklinger, a 2015-16 All-MEAC First Team selection, is averaging 192.4 for the season.
Maryland-Eastern Shore senior Thashaina Seraus was selected as the 2016-17 Bowler-of-the-Year, while her teammate Cayla Hicks shares Rookie-of-the-Year honors with DSU’s Neuer.
Kayla Bandy of MDES was chosen by her peers as MEAC Coach-of-the-Year.
Delaware State is the reigning MEAC champ. The Hornets will look to defend their crown during the conference championship tournament in Chesapeake, Va., this weekend.
DSU was 20-4 and captured the MEAC North title during regular season conference play.
