The injury-plagued Lady Hornets begin a three-game Sunshine State swing with a visit to the University of Florida. Delaware State brings a five-game losing streak into the contest. The Lady Hornets have dressed just seven players in the last three games due to a slew of injuries. Among the walking wounded is 2017-18 MEAC Preseason Player-of-the-Year NaJai Pollard, who is out indefinitely due to a knee injury suffered in the Dec. 6 contest against Robert Morris. Pollard was tops in the MEAC in scoring and 10th in rebounding when she went down. Delaware State is coming off a 105-36 thrashing at the hands of Michigan on Dec. 21. The Lady Hornets led 6-5 after four minutes, but were outscored 20-8 in the remainder of the first quarter to trail 25-14 after the first 10 minutes. Michigan won the second quarter 25-4 to lead 50-18 at the half. Lanayjha Ashe was the only Delaware State player to score in double figures with 13 points, highlighted by 5-for-5 shooting at the free throw line. Ashe, second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game, has tallied 64 points in the last four games after posting just 26 in the previous five contests. She also leads the team with 31 assists and seven three-point field goals. Freshman guard Ryan Jones is third on the Lady Hornets in scoring at 8.4 points per game. Jones is second on the team in assists (24) and tops in free throw shooting (.743).
Florida (10-2), a member of the Southeast Conference, posted a 71-51 victory over St. Joseph’s (Pa.) in a Gator Holiday Classic contest on Dec. 21. Paulina Hersler led five Florida players in double-figures with a game-high 19 points. She was 7-for-10 from the field, including 3-of-5 on three-point shots. Delicia Washington added 14 points, while Haley Lorenzen posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. For the season, Funda Nakkasoglu leads the Gators with a 16.2 point per game average. She also has a team-high 28 three-point field goals. Lorenzen averages 12.3 points and a team-high 9.4 rebounds per game. Washington tops the Gators with 44 assists.

This will be the first meeting between the teams. The Lady Hornets are also facing a Southeast Conference opponent for the first time since a 73-67 loss to Vanderbilt on Nov. 14, 2013.
