Dover, Del. (Nov. 6) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets fall to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in their season opener 68-38 on Wednesday night at Memorial Hall.

The Lady Hornets shot just 14-of-66 from the field (21.2%).

The Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 12-2 start, capped off by a three pointer from Mary Clougherty. The Lady Hornets responded with a 5-0 run of there own cutting the deficit to just five points after a layup from DeMaurea Moore.  After the first quarter DSU trailed Lehigh 14-7.

Delaware State trailed 27-13 with 3:56 left in the first half.  They responded with a 7-2 run, highlighted by a three from Naomi Shorts to cut the deficit to 29-20. Lehigh went into the half time though up 31-20.

The Mountain Hawks led the entire game.

Lehigh outscored Delaware State 37-18 in the second half. They led by as much as 30 points with 1:45 left in the contest.

Sharajah Collins led the way for the Lady Hornets with a team high eight points and two steals. Tierra Floyd added seven rebounds, six points, three steals and one block.

Cameryn Benz led the way for the Mountain Hawks scoring a game high 20 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Camryn Buhr recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Buhr had a game best with a plus/minus score of +19.

Lehigh outscored DSU 26-14 in points in the paint.

The Mountain Hawks also outscored the Lady Hornets 30-13 in bench points.

Up next for the Lady Hornets is a home game vs. Post University on Nov. 9th. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm.
