Norfolk, Va. (Mar. 8, 2019) --- NaJai Pollard has been named 2018-19 MEAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the Year, the conference office announced today.

Pollard is the first Lady Hornet to win the award since Mandy Clark in 2004.

Pollard is tops in the MEAC and eighth among all NCAA Div. I players in scoring at 22.7 points per. game. She also leads the MEAC in field goal percentage (50.1%), is second in rebounding (10.3 pg) and fourth in blocks per game (1.9). Pollard recorded seven 30-point games this season to go along with 15 double-doubles.

The Richmond, Va., native earned five MEAC Player of the Week and one MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honor this season. She currently rated as the second-best player in HBCU women’s basketball according to ‘The Undefeated’ player rankings. Also, she has received an invitation by the WNBA to participate in their draft combine this spring.

Pollard set the single season record for most points with 613 during the last game of the regular season. In addition, she broke the school record for most points in a career earlier this season, she currently stands at 1,961 career points.

NaJai Pollard will be recognized in a pre-game presentation prior to the Lady Hornets’ opening round matchup versus North Carolina Central in the MEAC tournament.
