Princess Anne, Md. (Mar. 7) --- The Lady Hornets lose to the Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks 69-58 in the final game of the regular season. Delaware State drops to 7-20 overall; 5-11 in conference play.

The Lady Hawks jumped out to a ten-point lead early in the game, after a three-pointer from Ciani Byrom to give MDES (Maryland Eastern Shore) a 14-4 lead with 6:25 left in the first quarter. Byrom finished with 15 points and nine assists.

After a small 4-0 run by DSU to pull within six points at 14-8, the Lady Hawks closed the quarter on an 9-0 spurt, taking a 23-8 lead into the second quarter.

Maryland Eastern Shore got their lead up to 21 points within the first minute of the second quarter. The Lady Hornets responded with a 11-0 flurry, with contributions from their four upperclassmen (Genell Addison, Lanayjha Ashe, Keke Barber & NaJai Pollard). The run was finished off by a layup from Lanayjha Ashe cutting the deficit to ten points, with 5:36 left in the half.  The Hawks regained control and ended the first half with an 8-2 run, to lead 37-21 heading into break.

The Lady Hornets deficit fluctuated between 19-12 points throughout the entire third quarter, each run made by the Lady Hornets was quickly answered by the Lady Hawks. DSU did outscored MDES 21-18 in the third quarter but trailed by 13 heading into the final ten minutes of play.

The Lady Hornets trailed 61-46 with 6:44 left in the game.  Delaware State used a 10-3 run, capped off by a three-pointer from Lanayjha Ashe to bring the score to 64-56 with 3:04 left in the game. Ashe finished the contest with 14 points.

DSU would not get any closer to tying the game up, as Maryland Eastern Shore ended the game at the free throw line.

The Lady Hornets shot 23-of-57 (40.4%) from the floor, just 3-of-22 (13.6%) on three-point attempts. They made 9-of-13 (69.2%) of their free throws.

NaJai Pollard finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. She broke the school record for most points in a single season with 613, the record was previously held by Raven Bankston who scored 595 points during the 2013-2014 season.

The Lady Hawks shot 24-of-63 (38.1%) on their field goal attempts, including 12-of-30 (40.0%) on three-pointers. They made 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the charity stripe.

Keyera Eaton led three MDES players in double figures with 21 points.
