Greensboro, N.C. (Feb. 9) --- The Lady Hornets lose to the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies, 72-49. DSU falls to 4-17 overall and 2-8 in the conference.

The Lady Hornets fell behind early. They trailed 8-3 with 5:03 left in the first quarter. DSU held the Lady Aggies scoreless for over four minutes, while DSU’s forward NaJai Pollard went on a personal 6-0 run, giving Delaware State a brief lead at 9-8. Lady Aggies’ Taya Jones made a three-pointer to retake an 11-9 lead. That would also be the score at the end of the first.

Delaware State again took a brief lead, this time at 20-18 after a layup from Pollard with 3:20 left in the half. North Carolina A&T ended the half on a 9-0 run, capped off by another three-pointer from Taya Jones.

Jones finished the game with eight points, including the two three-pointers.

NaJai Pollard led the way with 30 points (11-of-19 from the field) and nine rebounds. However, the rest of the Lady Hornets made just six field goal attempts.

The Lady Aggies took a 39-29 lead after a three-pointer from Ciani McCray with 5:31 left in the third quarter. DSU continued to fight though. The Lady Hornets responded with a 7-2 run, capped off by a jumper from NaJai Pollard, cutting the deficit to four with 2:14 left in the third.  North Carolina A&T ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, taking a 47-36 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hornets trailed by just 10 points after a layup from Pollard with 8:35 left in the game. North Carola A&T put the game out of reach with a 21-4 run, that started with 7:35 remaining and spanned over five minutes of game action.

The Lady Hornets were 17-of-51 (33.3%) on field goal attempts, including just 5-of-20 on three-point attempts. They did make 10-of-11 (90.9%) from the free throw line.

North Carolina A&T shot 27-of-73 (37.0%) from the field and 6-of-17 (35.3%) from beyond-the-arc. The Lady Aggies struggled from the line converting just 12-of-24 (50.0%) on free throw attempts.

C’coriea Foy led three Lady Aggies in double figures with 20 points (8-of-18 from the field). Alexus Lessears recorded a double-double with 12 points (3-of-11 on field goal attempts) and 11 rebounds.

1. The Lady Hornets were out-rebounded by 17.
2. The Lady Hornets committed 26 turnovers.

NaJai Pollard now has the second most points in school history (1,834) passing Hornet great and her also her former head coach Barbara Burgess (1,807) and is just 13 points shy from becoming the all-time leader in points (currently held by Shervon Hunter with 1846 points).

The Lady Hornets face North Carolina Central on Monday, Feb.11. Tip-off starts at 5:30 pm.
