Delaware State was eliminated in the first round of the MEAC Tournament by the Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks, 77-60 Tuesday afternoon at the Scope Arena.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 12-7 run, started by a three-pointer from Ryan Jones on the game’s opening possession, and capped off by seven straight points from NaJai Pollard.

DSU’s lead extended to 10 points after a layup from Genell Addison gave them a 19-9 advantage with 2:19 remaining.  The Hawks hit back to back three-pointers, but DSU still lead 19-15 heading into the second quarter.

Delaware State held on to their lead throughout the second quarter, both teams struggled on offense shooting 33% from the field.

DSU headed into halftime up 33-27.

Maryland Eastern Shore opened the second half on a 12-2 run, and took their first lead of the game, 38-35 with 7:18 left in the third quarter.  The Hawks made six three-pointers in the period and led 53-48 going into the fourth quarter.

Delaware State was outscored 24-12 in the final quarter, Maryland Eastern Shore led by as many as 19 points with 4:08 remaining.

Delaware State made 24-of-71 (33.8%) field goal attempts, including 6-of-23 (26.1%) on three-pointers.

NaJai Pollard led the Hornets with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

DSU’s Arion Jackson had a game high 12 rebounds.

Maryland Eastern Shore shot 26-of-66 (39.4%) from the field and 11-of-29 (37.9%) from beyond-the-arc.

Alexus Hicks led four Hawks in double figures with 18 points.
