Boca Raton, Fla. (Dec. 29) --- Delaware State lost in the opening round of the FAU (Florida Atlantic) Holiday Tournament, losing to the host team FAU 90-67. DSU drops to 1-11 and FAU improves to 5-5 on the season. DSU will face Stetson in the third-place game tomorrow, time to be announced later.

The Lady Hornets struck first with a three pointer from A’Nikeyawna Barber to open the game, but FAU went on an 11-0 run, capped off by two free throws from Sasha Cedeno, with 5:48 remaining in the quarter. Florida Atlantic led 27-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Delaware State opened the second quarter on a 9-3 run, cutting the deficit to just six points with 6:07 remaining in the half. FAU responded with an 18-5 run to head into halftime with a 48-29 lead.

DSU outscored FAU 22-18 in the third quarter. Arion Jackson, Keke Barber, and Lanayjha Ashe each hit two three-point field goals.

FAU outscored the Lady Hornets 24-16 the rest of the way and led by as many as 27 points with 5:10 left in the game.

Delaware State shot 26-68 from the field (38.2%) and connected on 11-27 three-point field goals (40.7%).

DSU’s Lanayjha Ashe tallied 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Ryan Jones and Genell Addison scored 12 points apiece. Keke Barber added nine points and nine rebounds.

Florida Atlantic made 29-68 field goal attempts (42.6%) and made 9-28 (32.1%) three-pointers.

FAU’s Cedeno finished with a game high 25 points and 11 rebounds.
