THE GAME: The Lady Hornets will face the Longwood University “Lancers” in their home opener Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at Memorial Hall.

Delaware State has dropped four straight games to start the season. DSU has not played since losing to Kansas 81-47 on Nov. 22. Pre-season Player of the Year NaJai Pollard led the charge against the Kansas “Jayhawks”, with 23 points and seven rebounds. For the season Pollard leads the team in points (21.0 ppg), rebounds (7.8 rpg), and blocks (1.3 bpg). Freshman guard Ryan Jones is second on the team in points (7.5 ppg), and leads the team in steals (1.5 spg). Sophomore guard Lanayjha Ashe is third on the team in points (6.8 ppg), and first on the team in assist (3.5 apg). 

Longwood University, a member of the Big South Conference, is looking for its second win of the season. The Lancers dropped their most recent game to Fairleigh Dickinson 72-52 on Nov 26th. Longwood enters the game averaging 64 points per game, while allowing 82.8 points per game in four contests thus far. Kristina Antonenko leads the team with 14.5 points per game. Autumn Childress grabs a team high 8.8 rebounds per contest.

Delaware State and Longwood faced each other last year, at the Lancers’ home court. The Hornets fell to them 88-77. Pollard led all scorers with 32 points, the second-highest of her career. She was 12-for-16 from the field and led all players with 11 rebounds.
