Williamsburg, VA (Apr. 1, 2017) – The Hornets opened their season at William & Mary University for the 2017 Colonial Relays. Delaware State’s 4x400 relay team, comprised of Kiyair Lambert, Cameron Burgess, Gerald Amobi, and Kendall Leach placed fifth out of 38 participants, with a recorded time of 3-minutes-16.79 seconds. Their time qualified them for the MEAC championships as well as the IC4A/ECAC (also known as the “super conferences”) championships.
Cameron Burgess finished tenth out of 72 participants in the 400 meter, with a time of 48.98 seconds. In his first ever collegiate 400-meter race, the freshman qualified for the MEAC championships and the IC4A/ECAC championships.
Kiyair Lambert placed sixth out of 50 hurdlers in the 400 hurdles, finishing the event in 54.27 seconds. Lambert’s time qualified him for the MEAC championships. His performance has him ranked as the ninth fastest hurdler in the MEAC.
Robert Duncan participated in the Discus competition for the first time in his collegiate career. Duncan finished in tenth place out of 32 discus throwers, with a mark of 41.39 meters. His mark also qualified him for the MEAC tournament.
Roderick Brown and Trenson Terry both finished with a mark of 6.02 meters in the long jump event. They finished 13th and 14th respectively out of 26 participants (Brown placed ahead of Terry due to tiebreakers). They both finished just short of the MEAC qualifying mark.
Adam Funkhouser finished the pole vault with a mark of 3.80 meters. Funkhouser is tied for third in the conference for the pole vault.
Delaware State’s next meet will be at the Don Webster Invitational in Baltimore, Md. on April 7th.
