Greensboro, N.C. (Sep. 26, 2019) --- North Carolina A&T began its quest for a third straight MEAC football title with a      victory over Delaware State in a nationally-televised contest (ESPNU) at BB&T Stadium Thursday evening.

The Aggies defeated the Hornets for the sixth straight year to improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MEAC. DSU dropped its second straight game to fall to 1-3 and 0-2.  

Jah-Maine Martin rushed for 108 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries to North Carolina A&T to lead the Aggies. NCA&T quarterback Kylil Carter completed 16-of-27 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown, while Elijah Bell caught nine passes for 101 yards in the contest.

The Aggies won the total yardage battle 432-100 and held a 35:57-to-24:03 advantage in time of possession. NCA&T rushed for 238 yards, while Delaware State was held to 23 yards on the ground.

Bryant Dallas had 44 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Hornets. DSU quarterback Tylik Bethea completed nine-of-21 passes for 69 yards. He was also sacked three times.

Kwannah Kollie led the Hornets with four receptions for 33 yards.

Defensively, Brian Cavicante had a team-high nine tackles, including eight solo stops. Pontraille Gray added seven tackles (four unassisted), including one behind the line-of-scrimmage.

The Aggies opened the scoring on a 24-yard run by Martin to cap off a six-play, 69-yard drive with 8:12 left in the first quarter.

NCA&T stretched its lead to 14-0 on Martin’s second touchdown run, from 28 yards, at the 13:15 mark of the second quarter.

Later in the second quarter, Carter connected with Korey Banks on a nine-yard touchdown pass and Martin reached the end zone for the third time in the game on a one-yard run to give the Aggies a 28-0 lead the half.

North Carolina added nine third quarter points on a 33-yard run by Martin and a safety.  

The Hornets return home for their next contest on Oct. 5 against MEAC rival South Carolina State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
