HORNETS WIN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Dover, Del. (Mar. 4, 2010) --- Marcus Neal scored a game-high 18 points and fellow senior Frisco Sandidge added 11 to lead Delaware State to a 57-37 MEAC men's basketball win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the regular season finale for both teams in Memorial Hall Thursday evening.

The Hornets finished the regular season with a 16-11 overall record and 11-5 mark MEAC. DSU also claimed sole possession of second place in the MEAC standings with the win. UMES fell to 10-20 and 8-8.

Jay Threatt had nine points, eight assists and six steals  for the Hornets.

Hillary Haley was the only UMES player in double figures with 11.

Neal hit a three-pointer as time expired in the first half to give the Hornets a 28-17 lead at the break.

Delaware State opened up a double-digit lead (30-19) on a lay up by Threatt with 15:48 left in the second half.

UMES pulled to within 42-36 on a basket by Kevin White with 3:47 left, but missed its last seven shots from the field and committed five turnovers the rest of the way.  

The Hornets scored 15 of the last 16 points to secure the win.   

Delaware State will be the No. 2 seed in next week's MEAC Tournament. The Hornets will take on the winner of the No. 7 vs. No. 10 first round game in the quarterfinals on Mar. 10 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
