Delaware State (3-16; 0-6 MEAC) is looking to snap an eight-game losing streak, including each of its six MEAC contests. The Hornets are coming off a 60-47 loss at Florida A&M in their most recent outing on Jan. 21. The Hornets continued their recent shooting woes in the contest, hitting just 28.8 percent of their attempts from the field, including 25.0 percent on three-point tries. Freshman D’Marco Baucum, a mid-season addition playing in his fifth game, led the Hornets with a career-high 15 points. Baucum was five-for-eight from the field, including two three-pointers (2-3) , and perfect on three free throw attempts. Kevin Larkin (gr.) was the only other Delaware State player in double-figures with 12 points in the Florida A&M contests. Larkin is tops on the Hornets and fourth in the MEAC in scoring at 16.5 points per game. He has reached double-figures in scoring in 12 of the 15 games in which he has appeared, including a MEAC season-high 40 points vs. Cairn on Dec. 3. In addition, Larkin is third in the league in rebounding at 8.6 per game. Pinky Wiley (so.) is second on the Hornets in scoring at 10.3 points per game. Wiley is also tops in the MEAC in steals (2.2 pg) and sixth in assists (3.9 pg). The Hornets are seeking their first MEAC road win of the season (0-3). DSU is 1-11 overall away from home this season.
Howard (8-12; 2-3 MEAC) is trying to rebound from an 84-71 non-conference home loss to Harvard in its most recent out on Jan. 21. The Bison won their last MEAC contest 71-67 at South Carolina State last Saturday (Jan. 19). Howard features the MEAC’s top two scorers. R.J. Cole is the league leader at 20.9 points per game, while teammate Charles Williams is second 18.4 per contest.
HORNETS vs. Bison Series History (HU leads 54-52 … since 1967-68 season)
This is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Howard won the only 2017-18 contest 93-74 in Washington, D.C. R.J. Cole and Charles Williams led the Bison with 25 points each in the game. Cole’s performance was highlighted by 12-for-12 shooting at the free throw line.
